I love you, Mom.

We’ve learned most everything we know from our moms and this Mother’s day we wanted to highlight some amazing moms around the Spartanburg Athletic Club and share their best experiences being a mom, those challenging moments and what they’ve learned about themselves while being a mom. We want to thank them for sharing their experiences!

What has been the best thing about being a mom?

Knowing what it means to love another person unconditionally….even when you wanna ring their neck!!

What has been the most challenging thing?

Not being able to shield my children from heartache. It’s part of life, but it still hurts to see them upset.

What have you learned about yourself since becoming a mom?

I’m a better woman because of my children. They make me want to be a better human being. I’ve learned that I’m far from perfect and telling your kids I’m sorry goes a long way.

What has been the best thing about being a mom?

I learned what the meaning of unconditional love truly is. They make my soul complete and taught me what it means to care for another individual. I feel that I have been blessed by being given the honor and privilege to be a parent. I have felt joy through their joys and I have cried tears through their sorrows. I gained a new respect and understanding for parents when I became a mom. I had no understanding of how much my parents cared for and loved me until I had one of my one.

What has been the most challenging thing?

The most challenging thing has been watching them come into adulthood. That fine between wanting to protect them and care for them mixed in with their need to grow and understand. Though, I believe this is truly an obstacle that must be dealt with through all phases of life. I think transitioning into adulthood is one of the most challenging. You pray you have given them all they need. You lose the ability to protect them from harm. You experience your heart existing outside of your body when they are born. As a child, you are able to watch over them and help them. Once they’re adults, you are no longer able to watch over and protect. But again, you share in their sorrows but revel in their joys.

What have you learned about yourself since becoming a mom?

That I will overcome any obstacle or challenge that I am faced when it comes to caring for and loving my children. I have developed stronger faith in God. I have spent many nights praying for them as they grew and now as my oldest is out on his own. They give me faith in the goodness of people and hope in the future.
